Have you ever wanted to have something specific for your wardrobe, but found out that it didn’t really seem to be available anywhere? Or if it is, it’s not in your budget, or the right color, or whatever that’s just not quite right?
Well that’s kinda how this little shop over here got going.
Last October or November a post came through my Google Reader about making glitter heels. (I would link you to that first post I saw, but honestly, that blogger has burned me and kind of owes me $250, so I don’t really want you going to her site.)
In the last week or so of December, as New Year’s Eve plans were coming together and dresses were being found, I remembered those glitter shoes and wondered if a nice, bright color would be right to wear with the black and white dress I found.

This crossed my mind again while I was at DMV on New Year’s Eve (because I lost my ID and I was flying a week later!). So I pulled out my iPhone and started looking up some other tutorials for glitter shoes. It’s a great way to pass the time while waiting to be helped in purgatory.
It was about 3PM when I went over to Goodwill to get a pair of shoes, which I was able to nab for only $5! Then I went over to Michael’s to find some glitter and glue.

I was home by 4:00 and I started me some glittering. I did not use the same technique used in the first blog post I saw, because I wasn’t actually terribly impressed by the final outcome of those. They were glittery, but not exactly as sparkly as I’d like. Instead I went with a combination of a few techniques I saw, and just kind of did my own thing.
I was SO happy with even just the first shake of glitter!

After spraying my new shoes down with some hairspray in an attempt to keep the glitter from trailing behind me, I went to pick up my (then) new friend Valerie. We were in the car when the first set of fireworks were going off downtown, which means I was at her place before 9PM.

That’s right, my first pair of glitter shoes from start to finish, including acquiring the supplies, were done in less than six hours.
There was some cracking and flaking that night though, and they were not at all perfect.
I’ve since made 5 more pairs for myself, and several more for others, and it all started because I knew I wasn’t going to find the color of glitter I wanted on a shoe in a store, especially not for the price I wanted to pay.

(Valerie ended up in them by the end of the night.)
Now I offer the glittering of your shoes for what I think is a very reasonable price, and I’m working on growing an inventory to get into some craft shows!
What do you want that you can’t find?
