Reading goal

I mentioned in my New Year’s Resolutions posts that reading all of the things is something that I want to do this year. The day after I wrote that, I took a look at my Goodreads stats.

Just looking at the fact that I have reported reading only 3 books in 2013 makes my goal of 12 books in 2014 seem a little silly, except for the fact that I actually started the first book that I reported in September. So 1/4 of my goal in 1/3 of the time. That sounds doable to me! Especially since I didn’t report anything that I’d read before September, but I do know that I had a book or two that I read in that time!

I have a long list of recommendations from my friend Mallory, but I could always use more or just more endorsements for the .

Got any?

God, I love books. Seriously. I get happy every time I see someone talking about them.

I LOVE the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. There is a miniscule amount of romance in it and the books won’t leave you feeling like you learned some big lesson or read great literature but if you want to lose yourself in a book, pick up the first one. It’s called Darkfever. :)

Good luck on your reading goal!

Thank you. Adding them to my list now!

Oh giiiiirl. I can give you rec’s! Here are some of my favorite from 2013:

    *Me Before You
    *A Thousand Splendid Suns
    *The Sea of Tranquility
    *Wild
    *Tiny, Beautiful Things
*The Rosie Project (actually reading this one now, but it is SO good. Cute & charming!)

I’ve also heard really good things about the Slammed series.

Adding them to the list! Thanks!

Long comment is gonna be long. Brace yourself…

So from Mallory’s list I would definitely second the Stephanie Perkins books. They’re SO. FREAKING. CUTE. The Diviners and The 5th Wave were both really good too, but pretty heavy going at times (T5W content wise and TD because it’s over 600 pages).

Based on our discussion via email I’m going to recommend the following:
    – the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
    – Newt’s Emerald by Garth Nix (only 200 pages!)
    – the Wilfair series by Alysia Gray Painter (you have to trust me on this. At first you’ll be all “…the fuck is this? What is happening??” but they’re so squee-worthy. e-book only)
    – Spoiled by The Fug Girls
    – the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger (SERIOUSLY. READ THEM.)
    – Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden (heavy going, but I’m recommending it nonetheless)
    – Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
    – Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
    – Cinder by Marissa Meyer
    – The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (a little on the heavy side??)
    – The Accidental Sorcerer by K.E. Mills
    – Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson
    – The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix
    – The Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong (works well as a lead-in to her adult series, the Women of the Other World)
    – Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett (I adore Pratchett, but he doesn’t use chapters so can be a little daunting sometimes)
    – Notes from a Big Country by Bill Bryson (a series of columns that he wrote for a newspaper in the UK after moving back to the US)
    – Anywhere by J. Meyers (new adult, so sexytimes ahoy, but it’s stupidly cute)

    Okay. I’m done. FOR NOW…

I LOVED Shatter Me. Read that one for sure.

Thanks! I’ll add it to the “read soon!” list!
