If you were in Chicago with me at the 20SB Summit, there is a good chance that you heard about or saw how much my shoes completely tore up my feet. This is a possibility when wearing heels, which is part of why there are a lot of women who are completely amazed that I wear glitter heels to work retail.

After Chicago I took a little break. It’s been just over two weeks since I’ve been back home and I still have scabs from that single pair of shoes that made me bleed. I have definitely learned to always break in shoes before wearing them all over a city, also before glittering them! This weekend I put the heels back on, and I’m so surprised by the attention I’m getting again.

I ran out of business cards at work yesterday (there will be more with me today) because everyone loved them, and then I went to class and everyone went crazy over them!

So now I want to make sure to wear them to class as often as I can. Must show people all the colors I can, right?

I don’t know what is causing the extra attention, but I love the reaction I’m getting when I tell people that I make them!

In other shoe-related news…

I had an idea before I went to bed this morning (yup) that I might paint a yellow brick road onto the bottom of the red pair I’m working on. This amuses me and makes me want other such paintings to go with other colors.

I feel like that painted bottom could add just that little bit of extra awesome to the shoes. What do you think?

Have you ever wanted to have something specific for your wardrobe, but found out that it didn’t really seem to be available anywhere? Or if it is, it’s not in your budget, or the right color, or whatever that’s just not quite right?

Well that’s kinda how this little shop over here got going.

Last October or November a post came through my Google Reader about making glitter heels. (I would link you to that first post I saw, but honestly, that blogger has burned me and kind of owes me $250, so I don’t really want you going to her site.)

In the last week or so of December, as New Year’s Eve plans were coming together and dresses were being found, I remembered those glitter shoes and wondered if a nice, bright color would be right to wear with the black and white dress I found.

This crossed my mind again while I was at DMV on New Year’s Eve (because I lost my ID and I was flying a week later!). So I pulled out my iPhone and started looking up some other tutorials for glitter shoes. It’s a great way to pass the time while waiting to be helped in purgatory.

It was about 3PM when I went over to Goodwill to get a pair of shoes, which I was able to nab for only $5! Then I went over to Michael’s to find some glitter and glue.

I was home by 4:00 and I started me some glittering. I did not use the same technique used in the first blog post I saw, because I wasn’t actually terribly impressed by the final outcome of those. They were glittery, but not exactly as sparkly as I’d like. Instead I went with a combination of a few techniques I saw, and just kind of did my own thing.

I was SO happy with even just the first shake of glitter!

After spraying my new shoes down with some hairspray in an attempt to keep the glitter from trailing behind me, I went to pick up my (then) new friend Valerie. We were in the car when the first set of fireworks were going off downtown, which means I was at her place before 9PM.

That’s right, my first pair of glitter shoes from start to finish, including acquiring the supplies, were done in less than six hours.

There was some cracking and flaking that night though, and they were not at all perfect.

I’ve since made 5 more pairs for myself, and several more for others, and it all started because I knew I wasn’t going to find the color of glitter I wanted on a shoe in a store, especially not for the price I wanted to pay.

(Valerie ended up in them by the end of the night.)

Now I offer the glittering of your shoes for what I think is a very reasonable price, and I’m working on growing an inventory to get into some craft shows!

What do you want that you can’t find?

If you happened to be one of the awesome people at Bloggers in Sin City last week, you probably agreed with me at some point that those shoes are one of the coolest things ever. I’m usually much more modest, but let’s face it, those shoes are just amazing. More amazing than I thought I could possibly make! But I did, and you all seem rather excited about them.

After repeatedly being told that I should have these on Etsy, I’ve decided that I really am going to try to make that happen. It all starts with you guys! If you were part of BiSC, you can be part of the first phase of the glitter shoe business.

If you would like your own pair of glitter shoes, now is the time to get them for only $25! You can have any of the colors shown above, including the green that’s not listed below or the glow in the dark (did everyone get to see those?) that look white in the photo. Or, you know, you could go with one of the colors below…

Sadly, that’s the best picture I could find online of the most glitter colors from the Martha Stewart line, which is definitely my favorite glitter. I have access to almost any of the colors though, so if you google and find one you like more, just let me know!

I can also break down the colors in the shoes you’ve already seen if you’d like.

What I need from you!

→ An email (purekatherine @ gmail, but you all know that) letting me know you’re interested so I can send you my address.
→ A pair of shoes sent to that address that you know fits you (or someone else you’re doing this for)!
→ $30, this is 25 for the glittering and 5 for shipping them back to you. (I’ll send you an invoice through PayPal once we’ve got details worked out.)
→ Just a little patience, the process takes a minimum of 3 days. To be safe let’s say it’ll take me a week to ship them back to you.

Any questions? Let me know in comments or through email!

Didn’t go to BiSC but you still want a pair? Don’t worry, this is just a trial run, I will be opening this up on Etsy as soon as I have some kinks worked out. Think you know me well enough that I’d trust you with my address? Try me with an email, but don’t be offended if I tell you I’m really holding off for people I’ve met in person only!
