Rewards come with risks.

I have a small confession to make.

I am really proud of myself lately!

I’ve been taking some chances recently and I’m a little more than proud that not only am I taking these risks, but I think that they’re either paying off, or I’m being let down easy and learning that it’s okay to try, because even when it doesn’t work, it’s alright!

The biggest most obvious risk that I’ve taken is this two jobs thing. I did a stint of two jobs last summer, but they were both pretty easy and I’d done them before. No new job stress. Now I’ve got issues with availability and learning the whole new clothes thing, and there has definitely been a day or two that I’ve wanted to just throw in the towel, but I’m not! I’ve stuck through it and the paychecks are starting to be a definite pay off!

The one that I hope pays off for my roommate and I is emailing my landlord to ask about starting a vegetable garden in that grass area between the sidewalk and the curb. I haven’t heard back from him yet, and I know it’s late in the season to start such gardening, but it’s worth a shot! I’d love to try out the square foot gardening that my friend Leng has started in his backyard!

The most rewarding of things that I’ve tried lately is cooking! I mean, it’s always nice to try a new recipe that ends up amazing, but when it’s a nice, comforting mac & cheese it’s even better! Last night I tried this recipe from Campbell’s soup and I love it. Because it was me making it, I grated about half a cup of cheddar cheese and mixed that in as well. I was very happy about how it turned out.

I think I’ll use some more bread crumbs next time, and I’d love to find a more actual cheese version that’s as easy as this to make, but for now I’m still happy with this. Plus, it’s super cheap! I think next time I’ll double it!

There are some other (more personal) things I’ve done lately and some other stresses that had me worried, but because of the risks I’ve been taking, I’m working on getting through those and getting everything on track. I think it’s working pretty well!

Plans of progress and parties

Thank you to the person who left a very kind, but anonymous comment on a recent-ish post. I wish that I knew just who you were to truly thank you.

Getting better about blogging is part of my plan for this year. I’ve got lots of plans, including things like doing my makeup more often, and actually removing it at night when I do wear it. Rather than giving you a big list of things that I could think that will fit into this category, I’m going to simplify and tell you that I’ve realized that this year is the year that I’m going to be the person I want to be.

The most interesting of facets of this plan would probably be the new recipe idea. For the next twelve months, I am going to ask friends for suggestions, and then try out a new-to-me recipe every month. The one friend I’ve told about this so far initially asked if I was going for dinners or desserts. I had said whatever at first, but I think now I’m going to try to do one of each every month. By the end of the year I should have some fun cooking stories and a small cookbook of recipes I like to make! There may be even more to this plan that would include dinner parties, but that has yet to be determined. So far Double Champ and my future roommate are the only sure-fire beneficiaries of this idea.

What are your favorite recipes? And just how difficult might they be for someone who has never made them before?

I love when I forget that I schedule something to post later and then I get a comment on it so I get an email reminder that it exists!

For the record, I’m about 97.4% sure that I, in fact, do not have snot droplets all over my house. For one thing, when that conversation happened, last week, I wasn’t really moving around the house all that much.

In other news, this semester is kicking my ass, and I just made a meatloaf.
